How to View or Download Form 26AS From Income Tax Website

Form 26AS is the document what you should verify. Form 26AS is the consolidated statement of all deductions made for a particular Permanent Account Number (PAN) for a specific Assessment Year (AY) (Assessment Year is next year to the subjected Financial Year eg. for Financial Year 2017-18, the Assessment Year would be 2018-19).

It contains deductor-wise details for the relevant AY which allows you to analyze the actual deductions made by employer or client and vis-a-vis data reflected in Income Tax Department database. It also includes details of the refund paid to assessee during the year and any specific transactions as captured in the Annual Information Return (AIR) as reported by Banks and other financial intermediaries.

Options to view or download Form 26AS:

  • Through Income Tax Department website
  • Through Net banking facility of banks as authorized by Income Tax Department

Method-I: Income Tax Department Website

Step: 1 / 7

Form 26AS can be downloaded directly from the Income Tax Department website incomertaxefiling.gov.in. The PAN holder should be registered on the portal.

You need the following details to log in to the portal:

  • Valid Permanent Account Number (PAN)
  • The latest password used to login to a portal
  • Date of Birth / Incorporation of PAN holder

After successful login, the following steps can guide you to view or download Form 26AS:

Select 'My Account' tab and select 'View Form 26AS (Tax Credit)' option

It will ask for a confirmation for directing you to TDS-CPC website (maintained by NSDL), click on the 'Confirm' button

Then it will ask you for confirmation that you will be accepting only electronically generated Form 16/16A. Click on the tick option and select 'Proceed’. Click on 'View Tax Credit (Form 26AS)’ to view the form.

Form 16/16A is the document that is generated by the tax deductor and provided to you for the actual amount deducted from your payment

Select the relevant 'Assessment Year' for which you need Form 26AS

For Example: For FY 2016-17 select Assessment Year 2017-18

It can either be viewed on the screen by selecting HTML format and it can also be downloaded in PDF or TXT format.

Password to open PDF Format is Date of Birth or Date of Incorporation. For Instance, your date of birth is 01 Mar 1994 then your password would be 01031994.

Method-II:  Net banking facility of banks as authorized by Income Tax Department

Many banks have been authorized by Income Tax Department to let their customers download Form 26AS through net banking/ internet banking facility. Pre-requisite is that PAN should be linked to that bank account.
